At the spa, restore body and mind.
At the table, restore yourself from within.
In the tea room, settle the mind over a bowl of tea.

TEA

Tea Ceremony

Step away from the everyday, and let the mind settle.

The sukiya-style tea house “Joshun.”
The turning of the seasons, light and shadow through the shoji, the sound of water coming to the boil, and a beauty handed down through generations — a moment to take it all in with every sense.

In the stillness,
the senses sharpen, and you begin to notice small beauties that everyday life passes by.

The Pleasures of Tea

From sencha tea ceremony and kōdō, the art of incense, to seasonal events and other cultural experiences, the tea house hosts many of Japan's traditional pleasures.
A place to encounter Japan's traditional culture, or to share a special moment with someone close to you.
Enjoy the space of “Joshun” in whatever way suits you.

Spa treatment

Unhurried time for body and mind.

The ground floor of the guest house is a spa area, yours to use at any hour of your stay. There is an open-air bath in Shigaraki-ware tubs, an indoor hinoki bath, a dry sauna and a thermarium, and an experience shower with a choice of two water flows for alternating hot and cold bathing. After bathing, our dedicated staff offer a range of treatments, chosen to suit how you feel that day and what you prefer.

GASTRONOMY

Gastronomy

Today's Ohara, on the plate.

Each menu starts with vegetables picked that morning in Ohara and whatever is at its best that season, that day. Centered on kaiseki, every dish is prepared with your tastes and requests in mind. Not a set menu — a meal composed for that day, and for you alone.

An example kaiseki menu

Sakizuke (appetizer) · Owan (soup) · Mukōzuke (sashimi) · Shiizakana (hearty dish) · Hassun (seasonal platter) · Yakimono (grilled dish) · Takiawase (simmered dish) · Gohan (rice) · Mizumono (dessert)

An Ohara morning begins at the breakfast table.

Rice cooked in a clay pot, miso soup, grilled fish, dashimaki omelet, simmered vegetables picked that morning, and pickles. Breakfast is a seasonal Japanese meal, and we are happy to prepare a Western breakfast or rice porridge instead on request.
